Mechanical Supervisor


Location: Vulcania, Brakpan

Terms: Full-Time

Salary: R 28 000 – R 32 000 CTC per month

About the Role

This is responsible supervisory and administrative work of a technical nature involving overall supervision of the maintenance, repair and reconditioning of all types of Machines, the direction, deployment and supervision of the activities of all operators of highway equipment and supervision of all manufacturing staffs.

Responsibilities

  • Interaction with suppliers, contractors, and any other vendor regarding maintenance spares, fabrication, and projects as required.
  • The incumbent will be involved on a daily basis in managing the maintenance mechanical staff but may also be required to manage the electrical staff in the absence of the Electrical Supervisor.
  • Primary task will be to ensure consistent and efficient PM (preventative maintenance)
  • React asap and effectively to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in hydraulic equipment and hydraulic-operated presses
  • Assist the maintenance Engineer with corrective actions and improvement projects by managing and utilising the available resources.

Maintenance of Premises

  • Ensure buildings are maintained, including painting as required
  • Repairs as requested by HODs
  • Assign labour to tidy the site as required

Production Equipment

  • In conjunction with Maintenance Engineer, plan preventive maintenance schedules on production equipment
  • Allocate maintenance and repair tasks to subordinates and supervise work on a daily basis
  • With subordinates, carry out preventive maintenance as per schedules
  • Repair breakdowns as a priority to minimise production downtime
  • Ensure records for all maintenance and repair jobs are completed for inclusion into the history files of all production equipment
  • Assist the Maintenance Engineer with any special tasks (such as installing and commissioning new equipment) as required.

SHEQ Responsibilities

  • Ensure all employees comply fully with Section 14 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act: General duties of employees at work.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that you and your subordinates are familiar with the above section. A copy can be requested from the OHS Manager. Copies of the act are also available electronically on the Company’s home page. Summaries of the act are displayed throughout all departments in the Company.
  • You are further required to comply and ensure the compliance of your subordinates with all requirements of the Company’s quality management system applicable to your position and activities.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications

  • Qualified red seal fitter trade certificate with at least five years of trade experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Apprentice or on-the-job training for 2 Years
  • Hands-on maintenance experience 8 Years

Additional Skills

  • Planning and Scheduling of machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Microsoft Office and SAP
  •  Supervisory skills and management of technical staff
